PEP Clotet felt Oxford United's players repaid a "debt" to their supporters by winning 4-0 at Plymouth Argyle.
It was an impressive way to end a four-game losing streak in all competitions, particularly a week after a very disappointing 2-1 defeat to Northampton Town.
Ryan Ledson opened the scoring with a 15th-minute penalty, which had seen Ryan Edwards sent off.
United had to wait until the second half to make the game safe, as Wes Thomas, James Henry and Jon Obika all found the net.
More than 800 fans made the trip to Devon and U's boss Clotet was thrilled with the way his side made amends from the Cobblers defeat.
He said: "I think the players put in a fantastic effort.
"We were disappointed with the result and a lot of things in our last game at home.
"I know the fans prepared a fantastic day and we felt disappointed we could not reward them.
"The football was not at the level we wanted, so we felt very much in debt.
"The players managed to put it right with a fantastic performance.
"There was a lot going forward but we were very strong in defence as well.
"I’m very happy because the mentality of the team has always been superb and they’ve been working very hard to correct their mistakes and get better."
