AGON Mehmeti is ready to make his Oxford United debut if required at Bury tonight.

The U’s have been given a headache up front after Jon Obika (groin) joined fellow striker Wes Thomas (knee) in the treatment room.

Obika was being assessed yesterday and could still make the squad at Gigg Lane.

But with Gino van Kessel, who will miss next month’s clash with AFC Wimbledon after being called up by Curacao for a friendly in Qatar, struggling in a central role during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Walsall, boss Pep Clotet could turn to Mehmeti.

The former Malmo frontman has been playing catch-up since joining almost three weeks ago, but is available.

Mehmeti said: “We’ll see what the coach says.

“If he wants me I will travel, no problem, and do my best.

“I have been training very hard so I think I can play, no problem.”

Full back Christian Ribeiro is also able to head north after recovering from a knee injury, adding to United’s defensive options.

Josh Ruffels could also be recalled to stabilise the side after two successive defeats.

Bury have several players ruled out.

Defender Nathan Cameron is the latest problem, after picking up a thigh injury early on in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic.

The influential Danny Mayor (pelvis) and Craig Jones (groin) are also sidelined, while it is too early for Eoghan O’Connell, Andrew Tutte and Jay O’Shea.
