PEP Clotet is the favourite for the Oxford United manager’s job with bookmakers.

The Leeds United No 2, who announced a week ago he was leaving the club to ‘look for a new stage in his career’, was been backed in from 16-1 to 4-9 yesterday.

But there was also money for Frank Lampard and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, after reports suggested United have already held talks with the duo over the vacancy.

Clotet was assistant to Garry Monk at Swansea and Leeds and is a highly-regarded coach.

The 40-year-old Spaniard joined the Swans as academy consultant in November 2013 when Michael Laudrup was in charge, and three months later stepped up to become the No 2 when Monk took over as manager.

He then followed his boss to Leeds, but last week revealed he would not be joining Monk at new club Middlesbrough.

Clotet last season worked as a pundit on Sky Sports’ La Liga review.

Lampard has previously stated his desire to get into coaching, while Hasselbaink has been out of work since being sacked from Queens Park Rangers in November.

The trio are clear at the head of the betting, with Chris Powell next best.
