LEAM Howards starred as Ardley United survived a late scare to win 4-2 at home to Binfield on Tuesday and reach the third round of the Perpetua Press Hellenic Floodlit Cup.
Ardley took the lead after three minutes when Howards crossed to Troy Bryan, whose shot on the turn went in off the bar.
They made it 2-0 at the start of the second half when Howards raced into the box and slotted home.
Just before the hour Ardley added a third when Bryan netted his second, pouncing on the looseball after Reece Bayliss’s shot had been blocked.
Ardley seemed to be cruising with five minutes left, but Binfield netted two quick goals through Courtney Lawrence and Matt Jones to set up a tense finish.
Keeper Lee Farrow made a sharp save to deny Binfield’s Muhammad Davies before Howards smashed home Ardley’s fourth to seal victory.
Ardley return to Uhlsport Hellenic League action on Saturday when they visit Thame United in the Premier Division.
