Oxford United have offered scholarships to several promising players for next season.

Striker Dejon Noel-Williams is the son of former Watford and Stoke City frontman Gifton and impressed during a trial towards the end of the season.

Matt Berry-Hargreaves and Ben Chilcott, both defenders, plus midfielders Rex Mannings and Albie Hopkins also stood out in the trials and will have the chance to join the youth team.

They are joined by winger Graham Bryan, who has featured for United this season as part of the Academy programme which combines education with playing opportunities.

They join Aaron Heap, Dan Carr and Nathan Baker, who step up from the under 16s.

Joint U's youth team coach Leon Blackmore-Such said: “It shows that there are a lot of ways to get an opportunity provided you have the work ethic and attitude to go with the initial ability.

"All of them have a fantastic chance to impress over the next couple of years.”

Fellow coach Andy Whing said: “The aim is to produce players we believe can go on and feature in the senior squad.

"Canice Carroll, Miles-Welch Hayes, Jack Stevens and George Jeacock are all making that step this summer and promising players know there is a clear pathway for them here at Oxford.

"It’s exciting and we can’t wait to work with the new lads in pre-season.”
