BICESTER Town joint-manager Eddie Nix was both jubilant and concerned after his side completed a stunning debut season in Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East, writes Tom St John.

The Foxhunters missed out on the title by a point upon their return to competitive football.

But Nix was delighted as they completed their promotion-winning season in style with an 11-0 trouncing of Didcot Town Res.

But while Town have gone from strength to strength on the pitch, off-field matters still threaten the club’s future.

Bicester groundshare with Premier Division neighbours Ardley United – and with no agreement in place to return to the town – Nix fears further success will be impossible.

He said: “It’s very difficult for us to progress any further without our own home.

“You can’t survive without a reserve side in the Premier Division.

“Obviously Ardley won’t allow us to field a reserve team there because it will put too much strain on the pitch.

“I drive past Oxford Road (Bicester Town’s home prior to folding in 2011) every day and it’s hard to see it just sitting there.

“Bicester is the fastest-growing town in Europe and it should be represented higher up the football pyramid.

“There’s no reason why we couldn’t go further if we only had our own ground.”

Danny Bone hit four goals against Didcot to finish as the division’s top scorer.

Kieran Scott and Cameron MacPherson bagged a brace each and Adam Garner and Jordan Weaver also got on the scoresheet, with an own goal completing the rout.

Nix said: “At the start of the season everyone had the jump on us and we did drop a few points early on.

“So to miss out on the title by just a single point shows how well we’ve settled.

“To achieve promotion is a phenomenal achievement for a side which didn’t even exist a year ago.”
