JOINT manager Eddie Nix praised Danny Bone after he broke his barren run in front of goal with a brace in Bicester Town’s 4-2 victory at Holyport, writes Tom St John. The Bicester captain had not scored since the end of August, but helped Town come from 2-1 down to earn their fifth win in Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East.

Debutant Jordan Weaver also scored twice as they stretched their unbeaten run in the league to three games.

Nix was full of praise for Bone.

He said: “For Danny to keep going, through what has been a tough time for him, shows what great character he has.

“He hasn’t hidden, he’s carried on, and continued with his duties as club captain and he’s got his reward.”

Nix joked: “I told him at half-time that I had a feeling he would score that I had a feeling he would score a hat-trick, so he’s let me down by only scoring two.”

Bicester also handed full debuts to defender Adam Beckett and midfielder Kieran Scott, who have both signed from Ardley United.

The visitors went ahead in the third minute when Scott set up to score Weaver at the back post. The hosts turned the game on its head with two goals just before half-time

. Sam Whitfield’s cross looped in to the back of the net on 41 minutes before Dale Wright set up Rob Boyd to make it 2-1.

But as the conditions deteriorated, Bicester responded and Bone headed home Scott’s corner on 59 minutes.

Town regained the lead five minutes later, when Scott’s cross from the left was turned in by the unmarked Weaver at the far post.

And Bone finished the scoring from the penalty spot on 67 minutes, despite having missed his three previous spot-kicks. Bicester are next in action on Saturday when they travel to second-placed Finchampstead.
