Eddie Nix says he can’t wait to get started after being appointed as joint manager of the reformed Bicester Town, writes Nick Farrant.

A dispute with landlords, the Bicester Sports Association over the tenure at their Oxford Road home forced the club to fold.

But last week, the Football Association’s Leagues Committee gave the go-ahead for Bicester to return to the Uhlsport Hellenic League.

And next season Nix, 56, and fellow boss John Prpa, 43, will manage the club in Division 1, though league chiefs have yet to decide whether they will play in East or West.

Next season, they will groundshare with Premier Division Ardley United, though they one day hope to return to the town.

Nix, who had a spell at Bicester 13 years ago, said he was delighted when he was asked to return to his old stamping ground.

“I’m really excited about it and it’s a fantastic opportunity,” said Nix.

“It’s been on the cards for a while and there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes.

“There’s a brand new committee and there are local businessmen involved and, for the first time I can remember, an accountant.”

But Nix is not getting carried away and says they will aim for consolidation in the first season back.

He added: “If we did win something that would be great, but we’re just looking to stabilise and then push on from there.

“You can’t expect to get promotion straightaway because there are some established teams there.

“Everybody wants to win it, but only one team can.

“It’s no good saying we will do this and that before you get a solid foundation.

“Of course, we won’t be playing in the town, but Norman Stacey (Ardley chairman) has been great with us.

“But we hope to one day be playing back at Oxford Road, but let’s get the foundations right before we do anything.

“Everybody should want to play for Bicester Town, who were one of the founder members of the Hellenic League.

“Bicester is expanding as a town and we have a great opportunity.

“There’s a real buzz about the place.

“We’re looking forward to it and so are the committee.

“Because we’re Bicester men, we will put our heart into it and give it our 100 per cent commitment.”

Nix said he and Prpa, who jointly managed Old Woodstock Town, were confident they could attract the players they wanted to the club.

“We have been involved in football for such a long time we have made a lot of contacts,” he said.

“When we get a date for pre-season training we’re hoping that as many players as possible come along.

“There are a lot of good players in the area and we want them to play for Bicester Town.

“For too many years, we have lost players to Oxford City and other places because they have had nowhere else to play.”

Nix added: “It’s not all going to happen overnight, but we will get it right if people stick with us.

“I can’t wait to get started.”
