Bletchingdon twice let slip a lead as the basement boys were held to a 2-2 draw at Marston Saints in the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division on Saturday.
A surprise looked on the cards when Todd Parker Hunt put the visitors – who have won only once this season – in front after 15 minutes, finishing a clever move from a free-kick.
But early in the second half Matty Holton despatched a penalty straight down the middle to equalise following a push on Alex Allen.
Bletchingdon restored their lead in the 65th minute when Nick Allsworth slotted home despite claims for a foul on Marston’s keeper in the move which led to the goal.
However, Marston responded well with Elliot Powell slipping in a second leveller from an acute angle to seal a share of the spoils.
New leaders Oakley United stayed three points clear of Marston Saints despite being held to a goalless draw at Riverside, who became the first team to avoid defeat against them.
It stretched the hosts’ unbeaten run to four matches as a result.
Oakley United Res lost 2-1 at Broughton & North Newington Res in Division 2 last Thursday.
Josh Northam did the damage with a brace for the hosts.
Adam Pike replied for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough.
On Saturday, Oakley shipped two second-half goals in a 2-0 defeat at home to Yarnton Res.
Matt Robertson finally broke the deadlock after an uneventful first half, volleying home the opener, before Ben Coupland’s late spot-kick sealed it for the visitors.
