TEN-man Ardley United went down to a 2-0 defeat at Wootton Bassett Town in Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division on Tuesday.
With a squad of only ten players available, boss Kevin Brock played in goal, with regular keeper Jack Harding used as an emergency outfield player.
Despite the unusual lineup, Ardley largely dominated the contest, but were unable to convert any chances.
And they paid the price for a lack of clinical finishing on 24 minutes when Steve Robertson wrong-footed Brock before firing the hosts ahead.
Ardley continued to press after the break, but eight minutes from time it was all over for Ardley when Dan Bailey beat Brock with a fine lob for Wootton Bassett’s second goal.
Four minutes from time, Gavin Kidd was sent off for a foot-up challenge to seal a miserable night for the visitors.
Meabnwhile, Ardley will travel to Rayners Lane in the semifinals of the Bluefin Insurance League Challenge Cup on Tuesday, April 14.
They were due to meet Newbury Town who were thrown out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player in their 2-1 victory against Rayners Lane in last month’s quarter-final clash.
