Luke Ingram scored a double as holders Ardley United battled back from a goal down to beat Oxford City Nomads 2-1 in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Trailing to a Kieran Davies goal, Ardley appeared to be losing their grip on the cup, but Ingram's double saw Kevin Brock’s side into the last four.

It was the visitors who started the stronger, with Ardley forced to do stout defending.

However, the home side started to impose themselves and created two good chances.

Skipper Ollie Stanbridge saw his shot rebound off the bar after good work from Luke Ingram and moments later, Troy Bryan broke clear of the Nomads’ defence, but chose to pass when a lob looked on.

On 30 minutes, Ardley were again denied by the woodwork, when Ricky Johnson’s effort hit the near post following Conor Ingram’s pass.

The hosts were to pay just a minute later when Nomads took the lead.

Nomads raced up field and Davies, who appeared to be offside, fired Zac McEachran’s pass into the far corner of the net past Jack Harding in the Ardley goal.

Despite going behind, Ardley posed the greater goal threat, with Diego Petriaggi and Johnson going close.

And their persistence paid off when the hosts levelled on the stroke of half-time.

A free-kick was headed on by Johnson for Luke Ingram to score with a spectacular overhead bicycle kick past Nomads’ keeper Alex Williams.

Early in the second half, McEachran shot just the wrong side of a post as he tried to restore Nomads' advantage.

Ardley's Conor Ingram worked his way into a good position, but Williams blocked his shot and Johnson could only put his follow up wide.

With time running out, the game looked destined for extra time, only for Ardley to score the winner when Luke Ingram's mis-hit shot beat Williams and found the far corner from just outside the penalty area.

At the other end, Harding denied McEachran, before Ardley saw out the last few minutes.

Ardley face either Banbury United or the winners of the ties between Oxford United and Easington Sports or Old Woodstock Town and North Leigh, on a date to be fixed.

On Saturday, Ardley triumphed 2-1 at Newbury in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.
