Callum Convey scored an 80th-minute winner from the penalty spot as Ardley United edged to an exciting 4-3 victory against ten-man Abingdon United on Saturday.
The result saw Kevin Brock’s side climb to ninth in the Premier Division table.
Convey drilled home his spot-kick after Troy Bryan was brought down by Mark Threlfall, who was sent off for a second yellow card offence.
Jon Gardner had curled a shot wide of debutant keeper Josh Hill into the top corner of the net to give Ardley the lead after 30 seconds following good work from Joe Eyre.
However, the hosts suffered a blow when midfielder Tommy Kinch was carried off with a suspected knee ligament injury.
But it did not upset their rhythm, Luke Ingram doubling Ardley’s lead with a low shot after 37 minutes.
However, Anaclet Odhi-ambo scored twice early in the second half to haul Abing-don level, both from close range.
Ingram restored Ardley’s lead straight from the restart after fastening onto a poor backpass.
Tom Butler equalised once again for Abingdon, only for Convey’s spot-kick to settle a thrilling contest.
Ardley could have added a fifth on the stroke of time, but substitute Adam Beckett’s shot was just deflected wide.
Ardley went down to a 5-0 defeat at North Leigh Res in the second round of the Flying Press Floodlit Cup on Tuesday.
A makeshift Ardley line-up failed to match a clinical Division 1 West side.
Goals from Nathan Black-well and Joe Fullerton gave North Leigh a 2-0 lead, before second-half strikes from George Seacole, Rory Linford Pill and Conor Ingram sealed the rout for a rampant home side.
To make matters worse, Ardley had to play the last half an hour with ten men after Gardner went off injured, having used their only substitute.
On Saturday, Ardley travel to Cheltenham Saracens in the first round of the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.
