Ardley United provided a major upset when they dumped Slough Town out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Holloways Park on Saturday.

Goals from Luke Ingram and Gavin Kidd saw the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division club make the second qualifying round for the first time where they travel to Chippenham Town on Saturday, September 27.

Victory would take Ardley’s cup run earnings to £10,925.

Slough, historically one of the big names in non-league football, have fallen down the rankings in recent years – playing in the Southern League Premier Division – but it’s still a notable scalp for Kevin Brock’s side.

Ardley were boosted by the addition of Ingram, who was ineligible for the midweek replay win over Hartley Wint-ney, and their new signing from Brackley Town, former Banbury United striker Ricky Johnson.

Early on, James Dobson, who proved a handful for Ardley’s defence, set up Ed Smith, but Tommy Kinch whipped the ball off his toes. Ardley keeper Jack Hard-ing then pulled off a brilliant save to deny George Frith.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play in the 28th minute when Callum Convey’s pass allowed Ing-ram to outpace the back line before firing past Slough keeper Jake Somerville.

The hosts had the ball in the Ardley net, but it was ruled out for offside.

Then just before the break, Smith drew another good save from Harding.

The hosts equalised seven minutes after the break when Dobson was brought down in the area and he fired home the resultant penalty.

Having resisted more pressure, Ardley regained the lead after a 65th-minute corner.

Johnson headed goalwards, only to see his effort blocked, but the ball rebounded to Kidd, who forced it home for his first goal since joining from Wantage Town.

Ardley defended resolutely, with Harding denying substitute Daryll Thomas and Dobson missed the follow-up.

Although spending the remaining minutes defending, Ardley hung on for a famous win.

This weekend, Ardley travel to Oxford City Nomads in the Uhlsport Hellenic League.
