CRICKET: Bicester squeeze a victory

Bicester & North Oxford were made to fight all the way before recording a narrow two-run victory against an Oxfordshire Under 17 side on Sunday.

Winning the toss and batting first, Bicester were indebted to Duncan Bradshaw, who scored 58 out of their total of 158 all out.

Bradshaw, who had scored his maiden first-class century for Oxford UCCE against Nottinghamshire in The Parks two days earlier, was dropped on three, before hitting seven fours and a six as he reached his half century.

In reply, Oxfordshire lost a wicket in the first over, but they batted with great maturity as they chipped away at the total.

However, three wickets apiece from Michael Fisher and Ian Bryan saw Bicester to a narrow victory as they dismissed the youngsters for 156.

Westbury captain Richard Tredwell will look for further improvement after last season's third-place finish in the OCA League Division 1.

Seamer Andy Swain returns to the club after a year playing in the Northants County League, while Westbury have also snapped up Michael Loggin from Charlton and Kiwi Ben Rae - a qualified coach - who will open the batting.
