Twyford were celebrating after lifting the Peter Baker Memorial Trophy at the MP Sports Cherwell League presentation evening at the Spread Eagle Hotel, Thame.

They received the ‘top club’ award from guest speaker Pat Murphy, the BBC Radio 5 Live sports presenter, after their 1st and 2nd XIs posted the most aggregate points.

It was one of three trophies Twyford picked up with the 2nd XI lifting the Division 7 trophy, while Ben Elkington also received the 2nd XI batting award for scoring 760 runs.

Reflecting on the evening, club chairman Stuart Misseldine said: “It is quite an achievement I would have to say.

"It is a great reward for a lot of work from a lot of people.”

Misseldine believes the senior sides’ triumphs - the 1st XI won promotion from Division 3 as runners-up - has had a spin-off with the junior teams.

“Our junior sides have all progressed quite significantly over the last few years because the success of the full side has created a lot of enthusiasm for the youngsters, “ he explained.

“We had three junior sides this year and we will have four next year. Two of them won their leagues this year and the other side were runners-up.”
