CRICKET: Loggin is the star as Westbury finish well


MICHAEL Loggin took 5-12 as Westbury wrapped up their Division 1 season with a 44-run win at Charlbury, who were relegated as a result.

Batting first, Westbury posted 190 all out, Charlbury skipper Ashley Rump taking 5-17.

Rump then scored 76 in Charlbury’s reply, but with Loggin’s haul, they fell to 146 all out.

Division 2 basement boys Fringford crashed to an eight-wicket defeat at title-chasing Northleach Town.

Fringford fell to 119 all out, despite the return to the side of John Bacon (33).

Northleach then cruised to 122-2 in reply.

Brill stayed in touch near the top of Division 4 with a five-wicket victory over Deddington.

Darren Kavanagh took 4-19 as Deddington were bowled out for 109, then Ian Smith (47no) steered Brill to 110-5 and victory.

In Division 5, Chesterton finished only third, despite a 64-run win over Horley 2nd.

Trevor Price (45) helped Chesterton to 170-9, then Paul Hammond took 3-17 and Price 3-25 as Horley were all out for 106.

Pete Shipperley scored 81 not out to help Marsh Gibbon 2nd to 205-4 against Hanney in Division 7.

Derek Jeacock (44) and Lewis Jeacock (35) were also in form.

However, it was not enough for Marsh Gibbon, as Hanney edged home by two wickets, reaching 206-8, thanks to Richard Green’s 65 and Craig Woods’s 51.

Westbury 2nd crashed to a 77-run defeat against Stonesfield 2nd.

Stonesfield rattled up 175-7, Robin Hanks hitting 50.

Westbury then had no answer to the leg-spin of Dave Skidmore, who took 5-30 as they fell to 98 all out.

Chesterton 2nd secured promotion from Division 11 after an 80-run win against Wolvercote 2nd.
