CRICKET: Sad Bicester crash to foot of the table


Bicester & North Oxford crashed into the basement of The Oxford Times Cherwell League Division 1 after going down to an eight-wicket defeat against Oxford Downs.

A patient 71 by Darryl Woods provided the foundation for Bicester's 180-9, which never looked enough.

But Downs skipper Wes Bartlett bludgeoned an unbeaten 101 and Richard West stroked 40 not out to take Downs up to fourth and leave Bicester rock bottom.

l Bicester & North Oxford 5, Oxford Downs 25 Division 2 Oxford & Bletchingdon stayed top of despite being held to a draw by Great & Little Tew.

An opening partnership of 152 between Tim Rattigan (81) and Ian Mead (77) took the game away from Tew – but only after Rattigan had been bowled off a no ball before scoring.

Nondies ended up on 223-6, which Tew could not come close to as Ed Oakley (5-60) held them in check.

But Rob Garrett's 55 and some stubborn late resistance saw Tew seal a draw on 163-9.

l Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts 16, Great & Little Tew 8 Division 3 Twyford wasted little time beating bottom side Buckingham Town 2nd by ten wickets.

Ian Perna took 3-5 as Town were skittled for 73 in 39 overs, and then saw Hyron Shallow (49no) crash the required runs in just 51 balls.

l Twyford 25, Buckingham Tn 2nd 0 Division 5 Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts 2nd lost by two wickets at Leighton Buzzard Town 2nd.

Chris Day (72) and Andy Haines (53) were the mainstays of Nondies' 221 all out, which was almost enough thanks to Sam White (3-34) and Graham Frankland (3-53).

But Town scraped home.

l L Buzzard 2nd 25, Nondies 2nd 13 Bicester & North Oxford 2nd regretted asking Chearsley to bat first as their hosts crashed 254-4, of which Neil Davies scored exactly 100.

The visitors' batsmen could manage only 167 all out in reply, with Rob Humphreys making 45.

l Chearsley 25, Bicester & NO 2nd 4 Division 8 Sami Ullah’s century steered Oxford & Bletch-ingdon Nondescripts 3rd to a five-wicket victory over Didcot 2nd in Division 8.

Ullah hit 107 and Ian Esson 49 in Nondies’ 225-5, replying to Didcot’s 224-8.

Vishane Perera (51), Ross Fryatt (38) and David Allen (35) made runs for Didcot, with Will Green taking 4-63.

l Didcot 2nd 10, Oxford & Bletchingdon 3rd 25 Division 9 Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts 4th lost by six wickets against Kimble 2nd.

Alex Kerr hit 37 saw them post 108, with Michael Stackhouse taking 3-5.

Kimble eased home with Bradley Rose (51no).

l Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondies 4th 5, Kimble 25 Division 10 Iain Horner smashed 123 for Bicester & North Oxford 4th, but his side could not force a victory over Kingston Bagpuize 2nd in Division 10.

David Clark added 39 in Bicester’s 228-8, with Dick Giles taking 4-40.

Clark then claimed 5-45 in Bagpuize’s 197-8, but David Warner (59) and Kevin Shep-herd (35) saw them hold on.
