VETERAN off-spinner Richard Tredwell rolled back the years with five wickets as leaders Westbury beat visitors Bicester & North Oxford by 72 runs to maintain their place at the top of Cherwell League Division 3.

Tredwell’s figures of 5-63 put the seal on Westbury’s victory after they had racked up 268-9 in their 50 overs after being invited to bat first.

A 90-run stand between openers Tom Gurney (70) and Olly Tice (35) got Westbury off to a fine start.

Charlie Williams made 42, before Sam Harper added some middle-order impetus for the home side by striking 47 from 37 balls.

Visiting skipper Ryan Moore took 3-56 and leg-spinner Chris De Kock 3-70.

Bicester got off to a poor start, with Nick Moorman bowled in the first over.

A 76-run partnership from Alister Gibbins (65) and Matthew Collins (34) got Bicester back on track.

But it was the introduction of Tredwell into the attack that turned the tide.

Despite Olly Ward smashing three sixes from one Tredwell over, the visitors lost their final five wickets for 46 runs, being bowled out for 196 in the 48th over as Westbury collected maximum points.

Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts are bottom of Division 2 after losing by four wickets at home to Great & Little Tew 2nd.

Liam Manley (3-10) was the pick of the Tew bowlers as Nondies were bowled out for 108 in 35.5 overs.

The visitors stuttered before reaching 111-6 in reply.

Fine innings from Haris Naeem (86), Ben Clark (52no) and Rob Humphreys (41) helped Bicester & North Oxford 2nd post 222-5 against Horley in Division 7.

Despite wickets for Steve Conway (3-29) and Ben Clark (3-28), Horley were able to hold on for a draw on 199-8

A second consecutive five-wicket haul for leg-spinner Ryan McLaughlin (5-31) and three wickets for Sam Townsend helped Bicester & North Oxford 3rd beat Kingston Bagpuize 2nd by 17 runs in Division 10.

Kingston were dismissed for 131 in pursuit of Bicester’s 148, in which Mike Ilbery made the top score of

39.

Carl Needham’s all-round play helped Marsh Gibbon move up to fifth place in OCA League Division 2 with a 47-run victory over visitors Eynsham on Saturday.

The hosts struggled to 139 all out as Eynsham’s Tom Gerken took 4-32.

But a super haul of 5-16 from 12 overs from Needham, who had earlier scored 35, helped to dismiss Eynsham for 92.

In Division 3, Fringford fell to an eight-wicket defeat at home to Stanton Harcourt.

A composed 68 from Tom Bacon helped Fringford make 184, but 79 not out from Ben Tew and 49 from Arun White saw Stanton ease home at 188-2.

Division 7 leaders Chesterton lost their unbeaten record, falling to a two-wicket defeat at Eynsham 2nd.

Roland Margerison was the star of the show, taking 3-44 in Chesterton’s 178, before hitting an unbeaten 89 to lead Eynsham to 179-8.

Westcott 2nd edged out hosts Deddington 2nd by 20 runs to stay clear at the top of Division 8 North.

James Batman (42no) and Philip Bateman (34) helped Westcott to 143-7 in their 45 overs.

Deddington replied with only 123-8 as Westcott’s bowlers held sway.
