CRICKET: Challow clinch it

Challow & Childrey beat Great & Little Tew by 34 runs to leapfrog their opponents and so claim the second promotion place in Division 2.

David Slade was Challow's hero, taking 5-27 as Tew tumbled to 143 all out.

Earlier, Challow had posted 177-8 after choosing to bat first, Ian Demain top-scoring with 52, while James Phillips chipped in with 37.

Lloyd Brock took 5-43 for Tew.

Bourton Vale saw off already-relegated Hanborough to finish top of the table.

Jamie Noble's 83 set up Vale’s declaration with the score on 221-5 after four of the five wickets had fallen to Richard Brown (4-49).

Ryan Newhook then bagged 4-46 as the home side were dismissed for 177, Craig Wood running out of partners on 40 not out.

Hanborough lost the five points they had earned because they failed to provide a scorer.

Mark Strong captured 6-38 to help Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts dismiss Banbury 2nd for 135.

That total never looked like being enough as Jeremy Liddy hit 40 and Andrew Buckingham 67 not out in Nondies’ 139-1.

The result meant the home side overtook Banbury in the final table to finish fourth.

Sandford St Martin's Greg Pearson took 4-23 and James Risbridger 4-48 as Abingdon Vale were bowled out for 83 – the fourth time they have failed to reach three figures this season.

Brendon Ham’s unbeaten 38 then saw the visitors to 87-3.

Long Marston enjoyed their third victory of the season – and the first against anyone other than Hanborough – by winning at Tiddington.

Matt Johnston (40), Jon Talbot (32) and Will Cooper (31) got starts for the home side, but Peter Toovey (6-87) and Adam Wells (4-30) took wickets at regular intervals and they were all out for 150.

Marston were in trouble until Simon Robinson (34no) and Paul O'Reilly (31no) steered them to 152-6.
