FOOTBALL: Fowler suffers double blow as duo quit Bicester

Bicester Town manager Tim Fowler has been dealt a double blow after young defender Lee Henderson and midfielder Andy Styles switched to Witney United.

Henderson, 18, started out with Oxford United, but after being released he signed for Bicester where he made 30 appearances last season.

Boss Tim Fowler said it was a big blow to lose them.

"I'm disappointed to lose them," admitted Fowler, who has agreed to stay at the helm of the Oxford Road club.

"We did have an option to renew Lee's contract for another year, but we didn't want to stand in his way.

"Andy did very well for me and was my player of the year last season. He scored two brilliant goals against Witney. He's a good, honest lad."

Meanwhile, Paul Spittle, 43, has been appointed assistant manager/coach.

It followed Spittle's recent decision to hang up his boots.

Fowler paid tribute to Spittle, who has played for a host of county clubs.

"He has had a wonderful career," said Fowler. "He has played for all the top sides locally.

"He's an extremely talented lad and knows the game inside out.

"Paul's a real student of football.

"In the two seasons he has been here, he has helped steady the ship.

"He will undoubtedly be missed on the field, but his knowledge and enthusiasm for the game is first class and his contribution in this new role will be immense."

Meanwhile, chairman Nick Rowles-Davies has applauded Fowler's decision to remain in charge.

He said: "We place a high regard on loyalty and integrity. In addition to his ability to get the best out of players, Tim has shown total honesty and a great work ethic in his time with the Club. I am absolutely delighted."

Fowler said he was on the look-out for players for the new season. Contact him on 07966 482527.

Launton Sports skipper James Lisseter scooped three awards at the Division 1 East club's annual presentation night.

Lisseter lifted the manager's player, player's player and supporters' player accolades.

OTHER AWARDS Reserve manager's player: M Robins; supporters' player: D Bishop; player's player: S Sperrin.
