FOOTBALL: Boss Still's tenure ends in final defeat
Holders Ardley United could not give outgoing boss Dan Still a memorable farewell, as they lost 4-2 against Shortwood United in the Soccer Kits Plus Supplementary Cup final at Fairford on Saturday.
Ardley were playing their second cup final of the season, having lost to Kidlington in the Floodlit Cup final a few weeks ago.
And they could not have asked for a better start when Shortwood's Luke Bennyworth pushed Ryan Wiffin over in the penalty box in the first minute.
Danny Mason stepped up and confidently dispatched the resulting spot-kick to give Ardley the lead.
But within four minutes, Shortwood were level when Will Steadman headed home from a corner.
Just before the break, the Gloucestershire side went in front when Andy Hoskins's through ball found Chris Davis, who made no mistake.
Midway through the second half, James Coates increased Shortwood's lead when he hammered home from 25 yards following a poor defensive clearance.
Ardley struck back seven minutes from time as Leon Gordon headed in.
With Ardley now in the ascendency, they were caught by a swift counter attacking move which settled the match.
Three Shortwood players were left to run clear, and it was Matt Green who fired home from Jody Beavon's pass in the last minute.
