North Leigh boss Mark Gee has urged his side to ignore the league table when they travel to Yate Town tomorrow – or face a quick exit from the competition.

Although Yate are bottom of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West and without a win, Gee says their rivals will be a tough nut to crack.

“They have played only four games in the league, so it’s totally irrelevant,” he said.

“They have beaten Poole, Winchester and Oxford City in this competition, so they will think they will have a good chance against us.

“As a manager, you fully prepare, but as players you look at the league table and think they are at the bottom, so they can’t be any good.

“But they have some good individual players and will be dangerous.

“Mike Ford (City boss) has given me a report on Yate and we have played them regularly in the league, so we know alot about them.

“They were the best side we played at home last season, but we won at their place, so both sides will feel they have a good chance of getting through.”

North Leigh could boost their FA Cup and Trophy earnings to £18,500 with victory at Yate.

But Gee said: “As well as the money, it would be a good achievement to win as you get the chance to play one of the non-League big boys in the next round.”

North Leigh’s former City midfielder Michael Alexis returns after an ankle injury.
