Thomas Bowden (North Oxford) won the men’s singles championships at the Senior County Closed tournament.

The unseeded Bowden defeated eighth seed Paul Butcher (Virgin Active) 6-3, 6-2.

Bowden had already beaten the first, fourth and seventh seeds on the way to secure the title for a second time.

Butcher gained his revenge by pairing up with Harry Brown (also Virgin Active) to win the men’s doubles title from Bowden and Christian Petersen from North Oxford.

It was a close affair, however, with Butcher and Brown coming back after losing the first set to record a 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-3 victory.

The mixed doubles was also close, with Anneka Smith (Virgin Active) and Andy Firth (David Lloyd) beating Roger Maris (Abingdon) and Ana Coggon (Cholsey) 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
