ROWING: Falcon fly home at Isis Sculls
11:00am Friday 28th September 2012 in Sport
Falcon’s novice crew of (from left) Howard Jacobs, Tony Mclarin, Richard Ellis and Dai Howells post the fastest time in the Isis Sculls
Hosts City of Oxford may have dominated the honours board at the popular Isis Sculls, but it was a crew from Falcon RC, who produced the fastest time.
Falcon had ten winning boats, six of these in quads.
They included the novice quad of Howard Jacobs, Tony Mclarin, Richard Ellis and Dai Howellls, who clocked 6mins 56secs for the 1850-metre upstream course – the day’s quickest time.
The event attracted 132 crews, who raced in four divisions.
City of Oxford won no fewer than 28 sections – two in quads, 12 in doubles and 14 in singles.
The sixth fastest crew of the day were a Magdalen College School quad, who took the J16 honours. Two other Magdalen crews – a J15 double and single – made it hat-trick of wins for the school.
Five other local crews of youngsters, all from Dragon School, won their sections in the J13 to J11 age groups.
At an older age group, Oxford Academicals won three Masters classes, one in each variety of boat, bringing the tally of Oxfordshire-based winners to 51.
The action switches to the 39th Wallingford Sculls tomorrow when divisions will be held all day.
