HOCKEY: Hawks secure double

OXFORD Hawks completed a men’s and women’s double in their own pre-season county tournaments.

Hawks’ ladies’ triumphed with a dominant display Banbury Road North, winning all four matches.

They opened up with a 4-0 victory over Oxford, who then drew all their remaining fixtures 1-1.

Emily Smith, Katie Hewitt and Abi Flory starred as Hawks scored 13 more goals to top the pile.

Witney had a strong tournament, collecting seven points to finish 2nd.

Final standings : 1 Oxford Hawks 12pts, 2 Witney 7, 3 Banbury 4, 4 Oxford 3, 5 Henley 1.

The men’s tournament was a much closer affair as three teams were still in the running with two games to play.

However, Hawks picked up the point they needed to claim the title with a 0-0 draw against Banbury.

Wallingford were the surprise of the tournament, with a good draw against Banbury, wins against Oxford and Henley.

But they were beaten 1-0 by Hawks.

Final standings : 1 Oxford Hawks 10pts, 2 Wallingford 7, 3 Banbury 6, 4 Oxford 2, 5 Henley 1.
