CRICKET: Rampant Horley are champions

Division 5

HORLEY are champions and one success away from finishing the season with a 100 per cent winning record after they saw off Kimble with ease.

Nick Tarrant (53), Jonathan Hart (52) and Sam Pearce (50) set up a declaration after 45 overs with Horley on 259-6.

Jonathan Stackhouse (43) delayed Horley's party for a while, but Dave Eaton (5-23) and Darren de Bruyn (3-55) bowled out Kimble for 167.

Didcot clinched the runners-up spot and promotion back into Division 4 after thrashing Tiddington 2nd.

Matt Jones took 7-37 – including a hat trick – as Tiddington tumbled to 70 all out.

The hosts then used only 16.3 overs in reaching 71-2.

Horspath 3rd beat Brackley to consign their opponents to relegation and give their own survival hopes a boost.

Hayden Moon was their star performer, taking 5-24 as the visitors were all out for 104.

Robert Timmis then grabbed 3-14 as Horspath chugged to 108-6 from 38.2 overs.

Banbury 4th dropped into the bottom two as Abingdon Vale 2nd made sure of third place with a seven-wicket win.

Graham Beer finished with figures of 3-24 as the home side only just made it to 100 before being bowled out.

Mike Howe-Davies then stroked a stylish 30 not out to see Vale to 103-3 from 23.3 overs.

Banbury 4th 4, Abingdon Vale 2nd 25

Challow & Childrey 2nd prevailed by three wickets in their low-scoring clash with Thame Town 2nd.

Daniel Alderson (4-21) and Adam Shorten (4-35) looked to have bowled Challow to victory when Thame were all out for 108. James Hawkes (38) and Alastair Thomas (30) scored the bulk of the runs.

George Patey then took 4-35 as Thame fought back, but Challow just made it to 114-7.

Shame that the leaders have found it easy, but when you don't play the runners up all season what do you expect.

Horley are a useful side, way too strong for division 5, they will end up in Div 2 at least. Helps they no longer lose their players to Banbury XX.!

Congratulations to Horley, a suggessful enrty into the Cherwell league. Also Congratulations to Cubblington, a second promotion!
Does anyone else think that maybe these side could/should go in higher then 5? they seem to walk it abit by the looks of it.

Cleverswindler - by the look of how Banbury have performed in that league are you sure Banbury XX aren't still about?

Not sure what cedarox is on about.

We at Didcot congratulate Horley wholeheartedly. Well played and good luck on Saturday - 100% success is a great benchmark for everyone else.

Looking forward to seeing you in Div. 4 next year, lets hope the weather is a lot kinder!
