BOXING: Usher looks to make it three in a row

Bicester lightwelterweight Daza Usher will seek to complete a hat-trick of wins since turning professional when he faces Worcester’s Billy Smith at the GL1 Leisure Centre, Gloucester on Saturday, June 2.

Usher, has recorded a points win over Birmingham pair Sid Razak and Jason Nesbitt in his first two contests, will again be fighting a vastly more experienced rival.

Smith is a veteran of more than 120 contests, with his opponents including WBO world champion Ricky Burns and former WBA world title challenger John Murray.

But he holds no fears for Usher, who said: “I am feeling confident that I can make it three wins out of three and am looking forward to progressing as a fighter.”

In a bid to maintain his unbeaten record, Usher has been training hard under the instruction of head coach Islan Eltuyev, the former dual USSR champion.

“We have been travelling across the country in order to find suitable sparring partners to ensure I am as fit as possible come fight time,” added Usher, who is keen to attract more sponsorship to help his prospects.

Usher’s promoter-manager Keith Mayo, from Swindon, is confident of another victory for his man.

Mayo said: “It was disappointing for Daza not to fight at York Hall, but he is a positive lad and just keeps working hard in the gym.

“Billy Smith is no mug, but Daza is a good boxer and although it is early days in his career he is already showing a lot of promise.

“I fully expect Daza to walk away with another win.”
