FOOTBALL: Launton jolt champions

Strugglers Launton Sports’ hopes of beating newly-crowned Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division champions Hinksey were ended by Marlon James’ late equaliser.

Leading 2-1 with minutes left, it looked as though basement boys Launton would hold on for a rare victory, only for James to nick a point.

Hinksey took the lead when Jerome McCalmon headed in Denel Thomas’s cross from close-range, only for Lea White to lash home a 25-yard strike into the top corner to level matters.

Launton went ahead when substitute Nick Allsworth smashed the ball pastkeeper Martyn Clark.

However, Launton’s hopes of a win were dashed when James conjured up a late leveller for Hinksey.

Charlton United clinched promotion to the Premier Division after they beat closest rivals Eynsham 2-1 in their final game.

Needing a point to be sure of a top-two finish, Charlton took control, thanks to Anthony Davidson’s brace.

Although Andy Glossop clawed a goal back, Charlton held on for victory.
