SWIMMING: Blue Fins win gala opener

Bicester Blue Fins stormed to victory in the first round of the Home Counties League at Dunstable Leisure Centre.

Georgia Tagg, 13, led the way with two wins in the 15 & under category, firstly in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

Ellie Bunce, 15, won the ladies’ open 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly and also broke the club’s 100m individual medley record, finishing in 1min 12.10secs to finish second.

Joelly Alexander and Kie-ran Bird took their respective 13 & under 50m butterfly events.

Lee Hickman, 15, won the boys’ 15 & under 100m freestyle title.

Ellie Falkner took the girls’ 13 & under 50m freestyle and fellow 12-year old Tom Thorn-ley in the boys’ 13 & under freestyle.

Callum Laird, 12, won the boys’ 13 & under backstroke.

Result: 1 Bicester 253pts, 2 Newport Pagnell 245, 3 Dunstable 203, Witney B 179 points.

OTHER RESULTS Men’s open 100m IM: 2 P Wiggins; 100m backstroke: 2 B Walker; 100m freestyle: R Steward.

Boys 15 & under – 100m breaststroke: 2 J Walker; 13 & under – 50m backstoke: 2 C Laird, 50m breaststroke: 2 K Bird; 11 & under: 50M freestyle: 2 O Inness, 50m breaststroke: 2 W Whitley.

Ladies’ open 100m breaststroke: 2 E Bunce, 100m backstroke: 2 J Beckett; 100m freestyle: 2 C King.

Girls 13 & under - 50m breaststroke: 2 E Falkner, 50m backstroke: 2 C Wanless; 11 & under – 50m freestyle: 2 C Wynne-Jones.
