FOOTBALL: McCoy hits double to boost Bicester


KYLE McCoy scored a second successive brace as Bicester Town’s mini-revival continued on Tues-day with a 3-3 draw against fellow Premier Division strugglers Car-terton.

On Saturday, the former Oxford United youngster scored a double in their 6-1 victory at Pegasus Juniors and he did the same on Tuesday.

Leading 3-2 with five minutes to go it looked like Bicester would hang on for victory, only for Carterton to score a late equaliser.

Trailing 1-0, Bicester skipper Chris Johnson then missed a penalty, before McCoy equalised and Lewis Brown gave Bicester a 2-1 lead.

Carterton levelled on the hour, only for McCoy to give Town the lead again.

However, their hopes of a a win were wrecked by Cart-erton’s late strike.

In Saturday’s game, Mike Spaull gave Town an early lead, only for Anthony Robb-ins to level.

After the break, McCoy, restored Bicester’s lead, with Dan Green making it 3-1.

John Umney bagged Bic-ester’s fourth, with McCoy grabbing his second to complete the rout and inflict the hosts’ second home defeat.

On Saturday, Bicester entertain Witney United.

Ardley United’s Oxford-shire Senior Cup third-round trip to Easington Sports on Saturday was called off bec-ause of a frozen pitch.

The game has been re-arranged for next Tuesday, with the match being played at Ardley’s ground.

The winners host Banbury United in the quarter-finals on February 16.

This weekend, Ardley host Highworth Town.

Meanwhile, Launton Spo-rts’ woes at the foot of Division 1 West continued as they were thrashed 12-0 at Cheltenham Saracens.

Ian Surcombe (6), Jamie Hammond (2), Jack Oldham, Joe Bermingham, Dan Har-vey and an own goal completed the hosts’ tally.

Launton are at home to Slimbridge on Saturday.
