FOOTBALL: Currie is new Launton boss

Duncan Currie has been appointed as Launton Sports’ new manager, following the resignation of Kevin Poole.

Currie, 42, who played for Launton last season, takes over from Poole, who has stepped down due to the increased travelling involved following the club’s switch to Division 1 West for the 2009-10 campaign.

Currie, who will be assisted by Martin Lloyd, said: “The majority of players Kevin had from last season were from east of Bicester, so the switch stumped him a bit.

“I was initially going to manage the reserves, but after a meeting with the committee, I’m happy to step up.

“It’s going to be a big challenge, but I hope to use my contacts and get a squad of local lads with a bit of experience.

“I have played all of my football in Division 1, so I can offer the people I know the chance to play at the same level.

“The committee were a bit down at the meeting, but I told them there aren’t many managers around who have got a side yet. It’s a bit of merry-go-round at this time of the year, so I’m hopeful of putting out a competitive side and win a few games.

“That’s really our ambition to keep our heads above water.”

The club begin pre-season training on July 7.
