BICESTER’S Ben West ran his fastest 800 metres when competing the British Milers Club races at Loughborough.

In a meeting that attracted athletes of international class, West not only beat his seven other rivals, but clocked 1min 54.84secs.

This was nearly three seconds faster than his previous best for the season.

West (pictured) has improved his time by almost 12 seconds in the past few months.

His mark was a national grade 2 time for under 20 men.

In only his first year in this age group, West is now 47th in the national rankings and fourth in the South East region.

Amber Busby fared best of the four Bicester youngsters competing in Oxford City AC’s Quad Kids competition.

Competing in the under nine age group, Busby came sixth in the 75m where she clocked 13.50secs.

Lucia Haverly was seventh fastest over 600 metres, while Isabel Smith finished 15th in the under 11 event, while Roman Haverly was 26th in the boys competition which included a 14th-place finish in the long jump.
