BICESTER’S hopes of recording their first victory of the season were dashed, when they conceded a last-minute goal to draw 4-4 against Wycombe 2nd at Bisham Abbey.

However, at least the visitors gleaned their first point in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1 of the South League.

Bicester took the lead, when driving play by Will Hartley set up a goal for Jonny Reid.

Wycombe pulled a goal back, but the visitors retook the lead on the stroke of half-time through a Dave Sutcliffe drag-flick.

When Sutcliffe made it 3-1 after more good play by Hartley, Bicester looked set for victory.

But Wycombe took advantage of defensive slips to equalise with two goals in five minutes.

Bicester looked to have snatched the points five minutes from time, when Ollie Hartley fired home from a short corner.

Wycombe responded by forcing a number of short corners and snatched a draw with their last play of the game.

Bicester return to their newly-laid pitch at The Cooper School to play Ashford this Saturday.

l BICESTER Ladies continued their Trysports Three Counties League campaign, with a hard fought 2-2 draw at Newbury & Thatcham 2nd in Division 1.

The visitors’ forward line of Nicolene Willers, Alison Haik and Bea Gunn caused havoc in the first ten minutes.

And it was no surprise when Gunn burst through for Haik to slot home.

Four minutes later, Gunn doubled Bicester’s lead.

They then seemed to let their foot off the gas and allow Newbury back into the game as the hosts pulled a goal back.

The second half was a more even contest, and the tireless running of Hollie Williams, Maddie Smith and Ness Hughes continued to cause Newbury problems.

However, a quick-counter attack caught Bicester out and enabled the Berkshire side to equalise.

Despite pressing forward, the visitors had to settle for a draw.

Other result: Bicester 2nd 0, Wycombe 3rd 0.
