DAVE Hawkins won the final round of the Ace Tackle & Bait Oxford Carp League, but could not stop Craig Partridge taking the overall title.

Hawkins, from Didcot, was a clear winner with a haul of 69lb 12oz 0drms from Canal Pool, Tunnel Barn Farm, in the West Midlands.

Runner-up Andy Benwell (Kidlington) recorded 54.12.0, while Roy Beasley (Solihull) was third with 46.8.0.

Jack Kerin (Didcot) collected 45.2.0, which was the best weight taken from the narrow side of the lake.

The victory lifted Hawkins to second in the final standings, two points behind Partridge.

Final standings: 1 C Partridge 28pts, 2 D Hawkins 30, 3 A Benwell 32, 4 G Kelsey 34, 5 S Johnson 36.

Brian Ballard, from Radcot Old Boys, won the individual contest in the Thames Championship, fished by 23 teams between Lechlade to Rushey.

Ballard caught chub for a winning weight of 32.6.0.

Clubmate Steve Arthurs was second with 21.4.0, while Ian Spanswick (Garbolino Blackmore) was third.

Team result: 1 Garbolino Blackmore Vale Gold 106pts, 2 UK Armed Forces Red 103, 3 Radcot Old Boys 103.

There was a tight finish in Marston FTB’s match on the Thames at Folly.

Pete Clarke, alternating between pole and waggler, caught mainly roach for a winning weight of 8.14.0.

This was just ahead of runner-up Paul Caira, who ended up with 8.10.0 of skimmers and roach.

Graham Bradshaw was third with an all-roach bag of 7.0.0.
