HEADINGTON rounded off a successful season when their B team retained the Summertown Trophy at Banbury Chestnuts.

Ten Oxfordshire teams qualified for the event, competing against each other over seven ends in a round-robin format for more than £1,000 in prize money.

After seven rounds, Banbury Borough B and Watlington A were in front, but then the heavens opened.

Headington, who completed an Oxfordshire league and cup double his month, adapted to the wet green and their seven-shot victory over Borough put them two clear.

With both Watlington and Chestnuts suffering defeats, Headington went ahead.

The key moment came on the penultimate end of their final match against Chestnuts, when skip Mark Charlett trailed the jack with his final wood to pick up a massive seven shots for Headington, who won by ten to retain their title on +36.

Watlington A came second on +26, with Borough third on +20.
