OXFORDSHIRE rounded off a fine performance to pick up their second Western Division victory with a seven-wicket win over Dorset at Bournemouth.

Harry Smith hit a quickfire 48 and Lloyd Sabin 45 as the visitors chased down the victory target of 116 to triumph before 4pm on the third and final day of the Unicorns Counties Championship clash.

In the morning, all-rounder Olly Clarke took three wickets to finish with figures of 4-48 as Dorset were dismissed for 206.

Resuming on 128-6 with a lead of only 37, the home side lost another wicket just three overs into the final day when Clarke bowled Samuel Thomson.

Banbury teammate Brad Taylor then dismissed Mark Wolstenholme in the next over as Dorset found themselves 137-8.

Oxon had the game under control, but were frustrated by the tail-enders.

A ninth-wicket stand of 25 between Jigar Naik, who hit six fours in his unbeaten 62, and James Hayman took Dorset to 162, before Clarke trapped the latter lbw.

But Oxon were further frustrated when 44 was put on for the final wicket.

Bradley Currie, who only scored eight runs despite being at the crease for more than an hour, was eventually bowled by Clarke in the 113th over.

Oxon needed 116 to win and were never in trouble.

Banbury captain Sabin, who hit four boundaries and a six as he scored 45 off 43 deliveries, dominated an opening stand of 43 with Clarke.

The latter was first to go, caught behind by Chris Park having scored seven off 38 balls.

Great & Little Tew skipper Smith joined Sabin at the crease and the duo put on 33 for the second wicket to push Oxon to 72-1.

But with his half-century in sight, Sabin attempted to hit a six, only to be caught at deep mid-wicket by Michael Porter.

Smith continued to score quickly, smashing 48 off 39, which included seven fours, as he and clubmate Jordan Garrett put on 37 for the third wicket.

But with victory within their grasp, Smith was caught at cover by Hayman as he looked to finish the contest.

It only delayed the inevitable, though, as two balls later captain Jonny Cater hit a four to win it.
