HOCKEY: Oxford Hawks Ladies suffer heavy loss against leaders Buckingham

The hosts’ defence were unable to cope against a Buckingham side containing Great Britain player Zoe Shipperley.

It was a powerful strike from Shipperley onto Gemma Darrington’s knee that led to the Hawks player going off.

Despite some fine saves from goalkeeper Miriam Pritchard, the visitors raced into s 3-0 interval lead.

Hawks’ best chances had fallen to Annabelle Denley and their best player Lucy Stewart.

Buckingham added a fourth goal in the first two minutes of the second half.

Although they attacked more with Becky Odlin and Caro Harris prominent, Hawks conceded a fifth near the end.

Oxford lost 1-0 to a well-drilled Teddington in South Clubs League Division 2.

In the first half, Oxford came close though Kim Haynes and Christy Barnard, while keeper Emma Henriksen had to be sharp to keep the score 0-0.

Teddington increased their intensity in the second half, winning many short corners.

Henriksen kept most of them out before Teddington scored the winner with ten minutes left.

Claire Werlinger scored as Oxford Hawks 2nd drew 1-1 at Reading 2nd in Division 3A.
