BICESTER’S Ben West claimed his third title of the winter season when picking up the Oxford Mail Cross Country League under 17 boys’ prize.

The teenager maintained his unbeaten record in Oxfordshire league events as he won the final combined under 15/17 round at Hill End, Farmoor, in 17mins 23secs.

He now looks to continue his fine form in the CAU Inter-Counties event at Prestwold Park, Loughborough, on Saturday.

Bicester’s under 15 runner Max Nicolle, who is also competing for Oxfordshire this weekend, came ninth at Hill End and finished fourth in the overall standings.

In the senior event, under 20 Tom Gould finished inside the top half, coming home 97th, as Bicester came second in the final Division 3 standings.

Bicester’s Timothy Jones and Owen Stocker battled it out in the under 11 boys’ race, with the former edging his teammate by five seconds to finish 13th.

Freddie Taylor was the club’s top finisher in the under 13 event, crossing in 17th.

In the women’s race, Alchester’s Sarah Rendell came home fifth to clinch second place overall in the final veteran 35 standings.

She was closely followed by clubmate Jenny McBain in sixth.

Bicester’s strongest numerical representation was in the under 13 girls event and their A team finished third on the day.

Millie Couzens led the team home in sixth, with Lucy Watts eighth and Amelia Cox 16th.

In the under 11 event, Isabella Couzens and Imogen Cox finished 12th and 15th respectively to help Bicester to their highest placing of tenth in the standings.

Bicester’s Amy Gould and Molly Action finished 23rd and 28th respectively in the under 15/17 girls race.
