BEN West put in a fine performance to win under 17 boys gold in the Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire.

With the event being hosted alongside the Bucks and Bedfordshire championships due to the cancellation of the third round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League, the Bicester AC teenager dominated proceedings.

West not only finished as the top Oxfordshire competitor in 19mins 21secs, but was also the first to cross overall.

He has subsequently been selected for the Cross-Country Inter-Counties Championships at Loughborough on March 12.

Bicester teammate Max Nicolle (below) also enjoyed a successful day, taking bronze in the under 15 boys race.

He secured a medal by just a second, though, edging Oxford City’s Benjamin Davies home in 14.41.

Nicolle is also guaranteed inter-counties selection, while clubmate Samuel Worfolk came ninth.

Tom Gould crossed fifth in the under 20 boys race.

Bicester’s under 13 boys and girls both took second in their respective team events.

In the male race, Freddie Taylor led the way in eighth, followed by Edward Jolliffe, Michael Cadle and Ben Groves in ninth, 11th and 13th.

Amelia Cox shone for the girls, finishing tenth, with clubmates Amy Willis and Imogen Ansell 15th and 16th.

In the under 15 girls event, Amy Gould was Bicester’s top finisher, crossing eighth, with Molly Acton 11th.
