In the latest column written by an Oxford United fan, OxVox founder member DAVE HOARE on his role uniting supporters around the world:

MY 50-year love affair with Oxford United started in 1966, when a couple of school friends took me to the Manor Ground for a

pre-season friendly against Rotherham.

Up to the mid-1970s I rarely missed a match – at the Manor or away games on a Saturday.

My attendances waned during the late-1970s until around the start of Ian Greaves’ tenure.

Then the ‘Bald Eagle’ landed!

Back-to-back promotions, John Aldridge, Bobby MacDonald, Billy Hamilton, ‘Chicken George’, Dave Langan and Trevor Hebberd.

Then three years in the top-flight and that unforgettable day in the Milk Cup final at Wembley under Maurice Evans.

In 1997 I moved to Poole and wondered if there were other U’s fans in the area.

It was then I came up with the idea of creating a website for Oxford United fans who lived outside Oxfordshire to get in contact with each other.

Thus Oxford United Exiles (ouexiles.org.uk) was born.

At first, fans were mainly UK based, but then people from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Asia joined.

Today there are around 700 fans listed on the site and we have a Facebook group and Twitter account.
