PAUL Davis declared himself pleased with Ardley United’s good form after his side moved up to sixth in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, writes Dale James.

Goals from Jacob Walcott, Dan Meade and Troy Bryan helped them beat Binfield 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Ardley have now collected 16 points from their last six games and, despite a slow start following a delay to kick-off due to traffic problems, manager Davis cut a happy figure.

He said: “This affected my players and it showed for the first 15 minutes when Binfield were at it.

“They scored and in all fairness it was probably the worst thing that could have happened for them.

“It kick-started us into life and we went on to show what quality we now have going forward.

“To win the game by that scoreline, I would have definitely taken that before the game.

“There are only two teams above us in the league form table and this gives us a good platform to now go and push on from here.”

Binfield took the lead on 19 minutes when Liam Ferdinand fired past goalkeeper Lee Farrow.

But moments later, Leam Howards was brought down in the box and Walcott levelled from the spot.

Ardley made it 2-1 on 33 minutes when Meade tucked a shot past Garry Aulsberry, before Bryan headed into an unguarded net for their third after a mix-up between Binfield players.

Bradley Cox, Reece Bayliss and Chris Jackson went close in the second half, but the score remained 3-1.

Ardley Utd: Farrow, Cray, Knight, J Meade, Jackson, Cox, Walcott (Bayliss 62), Tappin, Howards (Cruse 83), D Meade, Bryan (Ross 79). Subs not used: Foster, Heap.

On Saturday, two goals in the last five minutes steered Ardley to a 2-1 home win over Royal Wootton Bassett.

Cox thought he had headed United into a seventh-minute lead, but it was ruled out for a foul.

And it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Steve Yeardley rose highest to nod past Farrow.

Ardley pushed for an equaliser after the break, but Cox, Howards and and Luke Cray missed opportunities.

The visitors should have put the game to bed with six minutes to go as a shot came back off a post, but Ardley found their scoring boots late on.

Cray cushioned a cross down to Ross, who fired into the corner from close range on 86 minutes.

And in added time, Matt Cruse found space down the right and drove a shot into the top corner to earn the three points.

Ardley next face Flackwell Heath at home in the second round of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic Challenge Cup on Saturday.
