PETE Rampton won the Greene King Oxford & District singles title for the first time in the finals night at the Kassam Stadium.

The Six Bells, Kidlington, hotshot defeated Luke Purcell (George) 2-0 to claim the crown. After winning the open leg, Rampton tied the second leg 3-3 before winning the title on three sticks.

It was a good night for Liam Costar (Masons Arms), who won the three-way under 18s decider against Tom Finney (Blackbird) and Kieran Sellar (Crown) and added the Ted Houghton singles by defeating Dave Simms (Blackbird) 2-1, taking the final leg 4-3.

In the Monty Greenaway fours final, the Gladiators quartet of Barry Townsend, Andy Beal, Chris Jenkins and Kevin Giles defeated Garsington Sports Club 2-0.

After winning the first leg 11-5, Gladiators set a record-breaking 20, all four players hitting a five, which was too much for Garsington.

Gladiators made it a double after coming from behind to beat Garsington Sports Club 2-1 in the Greene King Cup.

In a cracking Oxford pairs final, the Swan duo of Terry Stuart and Pete Coates edged out Paul Townsend and Spencer Buckingham (Woodman).

In the deciding leg, Woodman set seven, but Coates hit a five and Stuart clanged off the remaining three dolls needed to win the game.

The lower section pairs saw Gareth Williams and Kenny Keep beat their Cricketers’ teammates Dave Filer and Ken Bradbury 4-2, 2-7, 5-3.

Blackbird beat Littlemore British Legion 2-0 in the Jim Whitbread Cup, but Legion got their revenge in the Oxford Fours by defeating The Blackbird 2-1. With game nicely poised at one leg each Blackbird set the final leg with 8. In reply Legion left their anchor man Steve Jessop four to win and he did not disappoint, hitting the winning doll with his last stick.

Pete and Den Sellar (Crown) won the parent & child final for the sixth time, beating Steve and Elliot Greenough (Garsington Sports) 2-1, nicking the final leg 7-6.

Trophies were presented by Oxford United’s managing director Greig Box Turnbull and Greene King representative Rob Pearl.
