PAUL Davis says Ardley United have lessons to learn after watching his side crash out of the Buildbase FA Vase at the hands of Tuffley Rovers.

The north Oxfordshire side, who played with ten men for 75 minutes, lost 4-1 at their Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division counterparts in the second qualifying round.

Jack Kennedy was sent off for a high challenge, but despite being a man down they led through Chris Jackson’s header.

However, four goals in 17 second-half minutes condemned them to defeat.

Manager Davis was less than impressed with the officiating, but accepted improvement was needed.

“I felt we were let down by the officials,” he said.

“On 15 minutes we had Jack Kennedy sent off for what, in my opinion and also that of the assistant on our side, was not a red card offence.

“But to concede three goals in six minutes, we were never going to recover from that, and we need to learn and move on.”

Both sides had chances early on, but on 15 minutes Ardley were reduced to ten men when Kennedy, contending for a 50/50 ball, made contact with the head of Sam Hill who was left with a serious injury.

But, despite being a man down, they led 1-0 at half-time as Jackson headed home on 39 minutes.

Tuffley equalised on 58 minutes when Liam Wright fired home.

And they quickly put the tie beyond the visitors, thanks to a Brett James brace and Warren Mann effort.

Bicester Town fell at the same hurdle in a 3-2 defeat at home to Broadfields United.

The tie was goalless until Bicester opened the scoring on 74 minutes when Murray Nichols’ free-kick found the net.

Broadfields, of the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, responded and the match swung in their favour with quick goals from Paul Somers and Harry Henley.

Rex Kimona then made it 3-1 with six minutes remaining to stun the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East side.

Bicester refused to surrender and Adam Gardner scored from the spot on 90 minutes after a trip in the penalty area.

The visitors were reduced to ten men late on, but they held out to advance.

Bicester bid to bounce back in the league when they travel to Woodley United on Saturday.
