WEST Oxford Democrats Club stayed top of Section 2, but were given an almighty scare by Six Bells A before securing a 5-4 victory.

The table-toppers trailed 3-2, before holding their nerve in the Greene King ODDA Men’s Summer League clash.

Ian Griffiths beat Jamie Tong to give Six Bells an early lead, only for wins from Mark Bayliss and Phil Say to put Democrats 2-1 up.

The visitors then went ahead after victories from Ade Cox and Martin Worrall and a real upset was on the cards.

Simon Tricker held his nerve to level, before a 2-1 pairs success gave Democrats the victory.

Second-placed George Bar A recorded a stunning 8-1 victory at North Oxford Conservative Club.

The home side opened the scoring when Matty Brain beat Darren Hughes, but that proved to be their only success.

Kidlington Green Social Club A stay in contention after a thrilling match at Vikings Social Club.

The home side raced into a 3-0 lead after wins from Paul Weller, Sean Pollard and Chris Pollard.

But Kidlington hit back to level, thanks to Pete Smith,Mick Richardson and Rob Smith.

A 3-0 pairs win gave them a 6-3 success, leaving them six points behind the leaders having played one game fewer.

Section 3 leaders Black Bull have opened up a commanding 12-point lead after a 6-3 win at Cricketers Arms C.

The visitors took a 2-0 lead after Steve Dennett (180) and Trevor Skinner triumphed.

The hosts pulled one game back when Alan Hunter beat Chris Room (180), only for Black Bull to increase their lead to 4-1 after wins from Stuart Lawrie and Tony Wheeler.

John Kearney (180) reduced the arrears, but a 2-1 pairs success for Black Bull sealed victory.

The battle for the Section 6 title will go down to the last games after leaders Butchers Arms were beaten 6-3 by third-placed Jolly Post Boys Florence Park Community Centre are just one point behind the leaders after a comfortable 7-2 win over the visiting Corner House B.

WITNEY Snooker Club pulled off a major shock in the Ladies’ Summer League after beating Premier Section champions Florence Park Community Centre A 5-4.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to victories from Angie Godfrey and Clare Bywaters.

Hosts Witney, who lead Section 1, hit back to level before a fine win from Tina Hamilton (180) over Maggie DexterNaylor put them 3-2 ahead.

The Snooker Club levelled when Sam Merifield beat Angie Pointin and then recorded a 2-1 victory in the pairs to seal a memorable success.

Section 2 leaders Kidlington Green Social Club recorded a stunning 9-0 win at Chequers Inn B and now need just four points from their last two games to land the title.
