OXFORD United’s Laura Nichol believes the side need to cut out individual errors after Everton earned a late 1-0 victory at Northcourt Road.

Substitute Emily Hollinshead bundled home a corner from point-blank range with 13 minutes remaining, leaving the U’s winless in their last six FA Women’s Super League 2 games.

The hosts were left frustrated and, after mistakes also cost them the previous week at Watford Ladies, Nichol is calling on United to stop what is becoming a growing trend.

She said: “I can’t think of many clear-cut chances they had, and the goal came from our own individual error.

“That’s annoying – it seems over the past couple of weeks that’s happened too much.

“We need to eradicate those stupid mistakes from our game.”

She added: “We came in at half-time really positive, because we’d defended really well and had a few chances of our own.

“The goal was a lack of concentration.

“I didn’t clear the first corner which gave them another – then we just didn’t deal with that second ball in and they scored.”

Both sides started positively, although chances were few and far between until Chloe Kelly skewed wide for the visitors on 20 minutes.

United fought back, first through Ellie Noble’s free-kick, before Ella Franklin-Fraiture’s tame shot was smothered by Everton keeper Kirstie Levell.

And it was down to Hollinshead to break the deadlock late on, taking advantage of Oxford hesitancy to find the back of the net.
