STEVE Townsend not only took the individual honours, but also led Drennan Yellow to the team prize in the second round of the Oxford Summer League on the Medley and Folly sections of the Thames.

On a warm, blustery day, the seven teams of six anglers were greeted by the sight of bream and carp spawning in some of the weedbeds.

Townsend, drawn near the poplars on Medley, caught ten bream on an open-end feeder and then landed ten pounds of roach on wagglers for a winning weight of 42lb 9oz 0drms.

Paul Passmore (Devizes MG) was a distant second with 23.0.0, while Gary Pook (Drennan Aqua) third on 20.7.0.

With Townsend’s teammate Tom Hobbs in fourth, Drennan Yellow won the match by four points and now share the lead with Drennan Blue in the standings.

Team result: 1 Drennan Yellow 36pts, 2= Drennan Blue, Sensas A4 & Devizes 32.

Bream and skimmers were the key when Jamie Godfrey won the fourth round of Yarnton and District AC’s Summer League at Clattercote Reservoir.

Godfrey caught five skimmers and a big bream to see off his nine rivals with a winning weight of 31.13.0.

Eric Smith landed four carp on a white chocolate brownie to come a close second on 30.9.0. Jamie Pancott was third on 23.12.0.

Brian Hutchings won Littlemore AS’s R Arnatt Cup with a quality net of roach from the Thames at Sandford, where 11 fished.

Hutchings weighed in with 14.3.0, while Paul Hitchman was second with 11.11.0. Pete Clarke came third with 8.3.0.

North Oxford anglers filled the first seven places in their match with Kidlington on the River Cherwell at Marston Ferry Road.

Ian Fisher was well ahead of the field with 14.8.0 of mainly quality roach.

Steve Foster finished second with 8.4.0 of roach and perch, with Steve Wildman third on 6.5.0.
