CUMNOR’S Lucy Durham returned from her first international tournament with a medal after helping Great Britain’s women to a third-placed finish at the Deaf World Cup in Italy.
The 16-year-old Kidlington Youth midfielder, who was born with sensory neural hearing loss and has worn hearing aids from the age of 14 months, raised £400 to fund her trip after being called up to the senior side for the first time.
After drawing 2-2 against Poland in their opening group match, Britain beat hosts Italy 4-1 before going down 4-0 to eventual champions USA.
They responded with a 6-0 thrashing of Turkey and despite losing 1-0 to Russia, they secured a place in the third-place play-off and a rematch with Poland.
Durham, the youngest player in the side, set up the first goal as GB secured the bronze, with a 2-0 victory.
