BICESTER Blue Fins produced a sterling performance to win the third round of their Division 1 Chiltern League campaign.

After only being promoted to the top league for the first time last year, Bicester took home 22 first, nine second and two third place finishes at the Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney.

Head Coach Craig Oliver said: “To finish first in this round when it’s our first year in Division 1 is outstanding.

“The swimmers are making fast progress and should all be proud of their achievements."

In the Chiltern League, swimmers must finish slower than a set time for each event, age group and gender.

Competing against clubs from Bletchley, Witney, Dunstable and Tring, Blue Fins got off to a flyer.

Emmy Whybrow opened the gala with victory in the ladies open 100m freestyle.

And her 11-year-old teammate Georgia Usher proved a force to be reckoned with, taking two first place positions in the girls 12 year 50m freestyle and 14 year 50m breaststroke.

Emily Allen (50m backstroke) and Sophie Phillips (50m freestyle) were also victorious in the age 14 category.

Chiara Brown (ladies open 50m butterfly), Charlotte Inness (ladies 100m backstroke), Noah Cadle (ladies 100m individual medley) and Harriet Gower (girls 12 year 50m butterfly) also won their events.

The male swimmers did not let the side down with Michael Tayler securing victory in the open 100m freestyle.

Matthew Harris (14 year 50m backstroke), Trevaughn Williams (14 year 50m breaststroke), Sean Lock (12 year 50m breaststroke) and Thomas Lewis (10 year 50m freestyle) also won.

Bicester’s victory was also indebted to second-place finishes for Zac Powell, William Jones, Thomas Wright, Freddie Whybrow, Charlotte Hiles and Taylor.

The relay teams also made a telling contribution.

Whybrow, Charlotte Inness, Cadle and Brown took victory in the ladies open 4x50m medley, as did the men’s team of Taylor, Whybrow, Jonathan Dowdy and Matthew Thornley.

In the girls 12 year event, Gower, Usher, Katelin Cavill and Charlotte Hiles clinched the 4x25m medley and came second in the 4x25m freestyle.

Emily Wright, Georgia Usher, Emily Allen and Sophie Phillips helped Bicester win the 14 year 4x25m medley relay.

The boys ten year team of Bilaji Kannan, Zac Powell, Thomas Lewis and William Jones won the 4x25m special medley and 4x25m freestyle.

In the age 14 4x25m medley, Matthew Harris, Williams, Thornley and Thomas Wright also secured victory for Blue Fins.

Also competing for Bicester at the gala were Rebecca Hiles, Isla Bohannon, Isis Ashley-Sparks, Prela Shah and Ryan Cattle.

BICESTER’S Lottie Wynne-Jones has been selected to swim for England in the Energy Standard Cup at Lignano, Italy, this weekend.

She will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events and will come up against swimmers from Italy, Russia and Germany.
