The ‘Town Team’ beat Oxford and Oxford Brookes universities in the first Triangular Contest sporting challenge.

Organised by the Oxford Sports Council, the contest, which took place at the Oxford Brookes University Sports Hall, embraced badminton, fencing, netball, squash and table tennis and included participants from 15 to 50 years of age.

Oxford University led the way with a win in the badminton, but, with victory in the final sport of netball, the Town ensured they took the overall title, with Oxford University coming second.

Margaret Stevens, chairman of the Oxford Sports Council, said they hoped to build on this event in the future.

There has been a “Town v Gown” annual competition, covering a large range of sports for more than 40 years, but this was the first time Brookes had been included in a similar contest.
