CHINNOR produced a sensational display to stun National League 2 South high-fliers Old Albanians 17-5.

The hosts, who led the table until last week, were on the ropes from the start with Chinnor playing with a strong wind at their back.

However, even after the break, a superb tactical display saw Matt Williams’s side get on top in the forwards.

Despite seeing all the play in Old Albanians’ territory, it was not until the half-hour mark that the visitors went ahead.

Winger Oscar Heath intercepted a pass to run 30 metres unopposed to score a try which was converted by Sam Angell.

Chinnor desperately tried to get another score before half-time while they had the wind advantage, but the hosts’ defence stood firm The away side now had the task of driving against the elements.

But they rose to the occasion with scrum after scrum being pushed forward by their pack to release the back row of Ben Manning and George Messum to lead driving mauls.

It didn’t take long for Heath to intercept yet another Albanian pass on the halfway line, before completing a 50-metre sprint to the line to score an unconverted try.

Then scrum half Greg Goodfellow stepped up to take centre stage.

The frustrated Albanian pack began giving away penalties, one of which the No 9 took quickly from his own 22 metre area and ended up jinking into the Albanian half.

A second quick penalty saw Goodfellow sprint through the defence only to be brought down short of the line.

But a quick flick to supporting Angell put him over in the corner for an unconverted try and a 17-0 lead.

Old Albanians did get on the scoresheet when full back Nick Foster scored an unconverted try five minutes from time.

But it did not spoil Chinnor’s magnificent day.
